You may find yourself in need of a well earned holiday at this time of year, but when it comes to choosing where to travel to, the options may seem uninspiring and limited to you, leaving the final decision a hard one to make. You may find travelling to long haul destinations in search of the sun a bit tiring and time consuming for a quick week away, whilst the European options seem too cold. You may normally end up in the Canaries, but if you spend every winter going there then it's easy to get bored and feel the need for a change of scenery. In this case, why not give Cyprus a try?  It's a destination that is often overlooked because there is a belief that it is too cold to travel to in the winter and it's best to stick to travelling there in the summer months. However, temperatures in Cyprus surprisingly challenge those in the Canaries leaving the island to market itself as a year round holiday destination.

The sunshine is a big attraction in Cyprus, but apart from that one of the other major draws to the island is the 8,000 years worth of religion and romantic mythology which is there to discover;  One of the main highlights being that the goddess of love and beauty Aphrodite is said to have been born in Cyprus.  At the Rock of Aphrodite, where the goddess is said to of emerged from the sea, local legend states that if you swim around the larger of the two rocks you are certain to discover true love! Fascinating history is in fact abundant everywhere you turn here; the island has been ruled at one point or another by the Greeks, Romans, Turks and the Brits to name just a few. Each rule has left an impression, which makes for an interesting and unique historical setting. One of the other main draws of Cyprus is the beautifully picturesque Troodos Mountains, which are definitely worth a visit to see in all their glory on your trip; if you go to the summit you will find a colourful local market held in an area known as Troodos Square.

No matter where you choose to base yourself, Cyprus holidays cater brilliantly for a wide range of holidaymakers, so whether you want to explore, let your hair down or simply relax there will be a resort perfectly suited to you. And wherever you end up on the captivating island of Cyprus, the warmth of the genuine, friendly local hospitality will leave you wanting more and more of this beautiful place.
